Hurricane season is June 1 – November 30. Partially due to its location,
Whether you
decide to remain in your home or seek refuge during a hurricane, BE PREPARED!
A two week supply of the following items is recommended in
preparation for severe weather:
Canned
goods and nonperishable foods (and a manual can opener)
Bottled
drinking water (3 Gallons per person)
Special
dietary foods, if needed
Important
documents (identification, policies and photographs in a waterproof container)
Personal
hygiene items (soap, deodorant, toothbrush, etc.)
Prescription
medication
Personal
aids (eyeglasses, hearing aids and batteries, etc.)
Entertainment
(books, puzzles, magazines, games, etc.)
Infant
care items, as needed
Battery-operated
radio
Flashlight
with extra batteries
First
aid kit
Cash
(banks may be damaged or destroyed; stores may not accept checks or credit
cards)
Food
and water for pets*
Mosquito
repellant
*If you decide to seek refuge in a shelter, alcoholic beverages,
pets and weapons are not allowed inside emergency public shelters.
